Adding an Author Image

thommeyerI was reading a post at a popular marketing forum simply about adding an author’s pictures to a post.
The discussion turned to plugins and a few wherever listed and problems wherever found with all of them. The one that everyone aforesaid worked in all browsers required the wp-content folder to be CHMOD’ed to 777 which is not excitable to me. So I patterned I’d show how easy it is to add an author’s pictures to a post without exploitation plugins.

First I went into my theme’s style sheet and accessorial this little bit of code.

.leftimg {
float: left;
border: 2px solid #000000;
margin-right: 20px;
margin-bottom: 6px;
}

Then I chosen the pictures I wanted to use and uploaded it through the transfer function on the Write Post page.
I ready-made the pictures small enough so I wouldn’t need to place it on the page as a fingernail in this case 50px by 67px.
Next I went to ‘browse all’ and clicked on the pictures I wanted to use.
browse all
From there I chosen to show the pictures full size, with it not linking to anything.
send to editor
I chosen wherever I wanted it to show in the post and clicked ’send to editor’.
That placed this code in that spot.

<
img s='http://www.xxxxx.com/xxxxx/xxxxx/xxxxxxx.jpg' alt='thommeyer' / >

To which I accessorial this class to the end so it looked like this.

<
img s='http://www.xxxxx.com/xxxxx/xxxxx/xxxxxxx.jpg' alt='thommeyer' class=”leftimg” />

Naturally to show you what I did I accessorial spaces and x’ed out certain things, but you get the idea.

All in all including resizing the pictures it took less then two minutes to do.
Now to add it to any futurity posts it wish take simply about 30 seconds or less with no fuss or muss.

Updating WordPress Plugins

Updating WordPress plugins used to be a hit or miss deal.
You had to go to the plugins page to check if there was an update available.
Not anymore.

With the latest versions of WordPress all you need to do is go to the Plugin page
of your web log and you can see right there which plugins have an update available.
(click on the fingernail to see what I mean)
updating-plugins

This feature not only does it easier to see what plugins have an update, but besides do it easy to go to the transfer page for the plugin and get the update.
Now you have the update what do you you do with it?

Well of course you have to transfer it to your plugin folder of your blog.
Sometimes I delete the old version 1st and sometimes I don’t, for me it depends on the mood I’m in at the time.
Normally I’ll delete the old plugin 1st and I haven’t found a problem doing it that way.
For the few seconds it takes to transfer the new version of the plugin it hasn’t accomplished thing negatively with the plugin not working.
Besides sometimes the old version of a plugin may be a single php file piece the new version may have more features that require multiple php files and requires the uploading of a folder instead of a single file. Once you run into that you should delete the old version first.

Sometimes the version of a plugin you are exploitation may not be compatible with the version of WordPress you are presently using. You wil see that happen once you upgrade WordPress from say 2.2.* to 2.3.*. In that case it is about always better to delete the old version of the plugin and then transfer the newer version.
An example of that would-be be with the Google Sitemaps plugin. Originally it was a single php file and now it is a folder of files. Of course there are alot more features to the plugin also.
But if you are exploitation the older version and upgrade wordpress once you write and publish a post you wish get a whole boat load of error messages.

So in closing let me say to do it a habit to check out your plugin page every day you wite a post. The little bit of extra time it takes is well worth it.
