This teacher resource benefits everyone! You, the students, the school community and especially the children in southern Africa whose lives have been so compromised by the twin perils of HIV/AIDS and poverty. There are over 2.4 million children in South Africa and Zimbabwe alone who have been made orphaned or vulnerable. They live sometimes alone, or with their aged grandparents, often they are unwell themselves.
More than 500 children a day are added to this sad tally.
The world's knitters have responded to their plight by sending 8" knitted squares to South Africa where they are made up into blankets to keep the children warm during the very cold winters. Often their blankets are the only bedding they have.
They are given to the children with love and a deep wish to offer comfort to them from everyone who knits the squares around the world.
This is your opportunity to teach your students how to knit. Then invite your whole school community to join in.
This Teacher Resource explains the predicament of the orphaned children and their lives and tells you all about the knit-a-square project and how you can contribute.
You and your school can join the forum and connect with a world wide community of caring knitters and crocheters only too willing to help.
Your purchase of this Teacher Resource also contributes to the work we are doing in South Africa to warm and comfort these children.
The resource contains how to knit sheets and details of everything you need to know to get your school involved in this truly warming project.
We look forward to your school joining our community of more than 300 schools around the world.
Thank you for your purchase and donation and for helping us spread the word of these children so greatly in need.
