Author: JHWhite Book Description: Are your sales letting you down? Is there something about your ad that is driving your buyers away, costing you sales and wasting your advertising dollars?
Sound-alike words are the words that sound the same but have a different meaning and a different spelling. For a seller to mis-use sound-alike words in their ad copy is to destroy their credibility with their prospective buyer. Prospective buyers expect sellers to act in a business-like manner and to be knowledgeable and reliable. And, it is from the ad copy that the buyer forms his perception about the product AND the seller. Word meaning mistakes in the copy create an image in the buyer's mind of a seller who is sloppy and careless. A seller who is NOT business-like, NOT knowledgeable and NOT reliable. Any credibility the seller might have had has been killed stone cold dead. And the sale? Questionable. Also, mis-using sound-alike words in ad copy creates a total distraction from the sales message. Sailing along through the benefits of the product, the buyer is jerked to a complete stop by a word that doesn't fit, a word that means something entirely different from the rest of the copy. Continuity of the message is lost. When the buyer has figured out what the seller's word should have been, he'll have to start reading all over again. Or not. The problem with a sound-alike word arises when one spells it the way it sounds. There may be two or three other words that sound exactly the same, but they are not the same words They don't mean the same thing and they aren't spelled the same way. Spell-checkers can't catch these words because they are correctly spelling the WRONG word. These are the words like: to, too, two. These are among the absolute worst offenders, and some of the most common words we use. Without some kind of aid it is almost impossible to recognize errors in one's own spelling. However, with the WRITE LIST of WRONG WORDS sellers can select sets of sound alike words from which it's easy to choose the right ones for their ad copy. The eBook lists 49 sets of the Absolute Worst Offenders right up front followed by more than 700 sets of sound-alike words used every day in every kind of writing. Listed alphabetically by the way they sound, words are fast and easy to find. Laid out in spreadsheet format, the sound-alike words are shown on the same line with descriptive words to indicate which one is the right word to use. If still undecided, examples show each one in a sentence. And the Acrobat Reader's search function will jump to any word directly.
