Will you have setbacks? Certainly. Disappointment? Absolutely! But, even in these, when viewed though the eyes of faith, you WILL have opportunities for growth and change. More importantly, the awesome Power that produces the sunrise, God, will be right there to see you through.
Years ago, I chased - and caught - society's definition of success. I had earned it all - the money, the high-falutin' job title with a major international corporation, the houses, the cars, the vacations, and all the 'toys' of success.
I was able to walk away from my job at a fairly young age content that I no longer needed to do something I didn't enjoy just to receive a pay check. I had arrived. I had achieved what I had unknowingly allowed 'society' to define what my success would be.
However, in a matter of a few short years, I began to feel lost. A devastating divorce, realization that any friendships seemed to be based on what I had achieved, and I began to lose what I had achieved - the money, the houses, the 'toys' and more. I got to the point where none of it mattered anymore.
Worse still, I realized I had no real belief structure. I had always been a skeptic. If I couldn't see it, touch it, feel it, taste it, it wasn't real. I had always been able to see the paycheck, the houses, cars, 'toys', and vacations, but, what I couldn't see, well, it just wasn't real.
I literally got to the point that I couldn't 'see' anything anymore to believe in.
Then, it was an early morning on a Florida beach in 1990 that it hit me like a ton of bricks. I finally accepted that I had lived my life, for years, with the self-created disabilities of selfish ambition and unbridled greed.
Stated more simply, I learned that my disability had been in my failure to love and live life to the fullest within the limits of circumstances beyond my control.
Let me explain. This realization came a few days after hearing . . .
"Mr. Rice, your cancer is late Stage III or early Stage IV."
If that wasn't scary enough, the doctors went on to say, "Mr. Rice, your cancer is terminal. You could have as little as 12 - 18 months. We can make you comfortable, but, there's not a whole lot more that can be done."
As I stood there on that beach, I was facing the ultimate physical challenge. I had lost most of what I could 'see', now I was about to lose my life.
Up to that point in my life in 1990, I had never been a "spiritual" person or someone who had a relationship with God. It was my skepticism. I had always heard people around me talking about God, but, crazy as it may sound, that morning I thought that if there was a God, He just couldn't be believing in me.
I was in despair, and I took full advantage of sitting on my pity-pot, my thoughts filled with, "Why me?", "What did I do wrong?", "Why couldn't this happen to someone else?" and more?
But, get this. Over the next few hours, standing in solitude, I was led to 'seeing' The Power And Blessings Of A Sunrise, and in the 19 years since, my life has never been richer (money, 'toys, happiness, peace of mind).
