Hi, I am Mike Donnelly. Most people would think I'm not particularly special! In 1978 I started out my government career as a lowly GS-5 making $10,000 a year that's about a low a grade as you can have. I moved 500 miles from my home to start my government career and didn't know a soul in my new city!

But I went from that GS-5 and worked my way up to become a GS-15 in one of the most prestigious and respected U.S. government agencies in the world - the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

And I have just a lowly Bachelor's degree and competed for jobs against one of the most educated workforces in government (or even private industry for that matter!)

When I retired from government in 2006 I was earning more than $130,000 a year and living a very comfortable life. I owned a great house worth more than $650,000, a beautiful luxury car, and had most of the material things I ever wanted for me or my family.
