WARNING: What you are about to read may shock you, or even make you angry!
Some facts you're about to learn about Addiction...and why you shouldn't even think about stopping with rehab, therapy or medication, until you read every word of this letter!
*
Almost everyone fails to stop their addictive behavior permanently with traditional methods. But there is a way, and sadly, it's being intentionally kept from the public.
* Traditional techniques to treat or manage addiction will only treat symptoms and will keep you in a perpetual cycle of addiction.
* Addiction is not a disease. Addiction is a learned behavior that you can change!
People are not getting sober in treatment centers
If you are anything like me when I was looking for help with my addiction, you're probably feeling a lot of frustration right now. That's probably an understatement!
I know how you feel. No matter what stage of the process you are in I have been there. I have felt the powerlessness, the fear, the hopelessness, the exhaustion, the anger, and every emotion in between.
The treatment of addicts in America is a multi-billion dollar industry, and like jail, it is a revolving door.
There sure is a lot I wish I knew before I entered 'the system' for the first, second, or even the tenth time. And, so much my family wish they knew before wasting so many thousands of dollars on things that just didn't work. We were really taken for a ride!
No one tells you that only 3 of every 100 people are getting sober. No one tells you that Treatment Doesn't Work! They just gladly take your money.
But as they say, it's better late then never.
Although, I have to wonder, if I had never gone to treatment would I have gotten sober sooner?
Studies done over the past 60 years have shown that people who attend Alcoholics Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous actually decrease their chance of lasting sobriety.
97% of American 'treatment' centers are AA/NA based.
95-98% of people who attempt the traditional AA route to sobriety drop out within the first year, meaning that AA/NA has about a 3-5% retention rate (the relatively better statistics coming from AA.s own study);
of that 3-5% less than half make it to 5 years of sobriety
Those numbers are getting painfully small!
There is a way to get sober without mortgaging your house, leaving your family and friends, loosing your job, or attending meetings for the rest of your life.
And, you won't have to pay an average of $20,000 to be told "just don't pick up."
Patterns found in addicts are typical models of destructive behavior. These behaviors can range from sex and drugs to nail biting and hair pulling. Does this sound like you?
1. Do you compulsively think about how to get and use your drink/drug of choice?
2. Do you feel a sharp increase in tension just before you score?
3. Do you feel an immediate rush of relief once you get the drug in your hand or body?
4. Are you experiencing extreme distress as a result of your compulsion to use?
If you answered 'yes' to the above questions, you have a behavioral problem. You do not have a disease. Great News!
You can be cured!
I am a real expert: someone who's been there and back!
I have been to so many places that promised an answer that I lost count after maybe the tenth; among them some of the best "treatment centers" in the country (relative term that really means most expensive), detoxes, rehabs, AA, NA, T.C.s (Therapeutic Communities), and every alternative that exists.
I tried talk therapy, light therapy, acupuncture, staring at someone without blinking for two hours, having the negative entities that were hovering around me cleansed, programs that fit every trait of a cult, physical cleanses, churches, prayer, you name it!
Tired of failure after failure, one disappointment after another, tens of thousands of dollars, a broken heart, and a crushed spirit I realized that no person or institution was going to do for me what I needed to do for me.
They couldn't tell me anything that could help me because they didn't know!
I later realized that even if these "experts" did know how to help me, "you can't hire someone to do your pushups for you."
After 10 years of heroin and Oxycontin dependence I have discovered complete freedom, joy, and health; and now I want to show you how.
I am cured, chemically independent, and you can be too.
I can tell you exactly how I found permanent sobriety, or, rather, total independence from drugs, from the comfort of my own home.
I didn't spend thousands of dollars or see a bunch of specialists. I didn't go to meetings. I didn't stress myself out, beat myself up, or somehow humiliate or break myself down to build myself back up. No way. I literally just changed my mind, and I have written up the method for you.
When it comes to addiction, nothing beats personal experience. Every addict knows that no one can read a few books and claim to understand what we go through.
No "expert," doctor, or addiction counselor should be telling people that they will be sick the rest of their lives, that they are powerless over their addiction, or that this 'disease' is not curable.
NOTHING could be further from the truth!
"The fastest, least expensive, and most pleasant way to get sober.
Period."
Everything that humans do is based on the desire to feel pleasure or avoid pain. To cure a behavioral problem you have to re-condition your mind. With a problem as potentially dangerous as addiction, a serious shift has to happen in the mind.
The great news is that you can actually return to normalcy! You may be able to have wine with dinner or take a pill if you need to, or even smoke a joint if you feel like it. Only you can know.
I know, I know. Some people are gonna be really mad at me for saying that. They are going to call me irresponsible. But, it's the truth and I am living proof.
My urge to abuse drugs and alcohol left me as if by magic.
If you are offended, and about to click off this page let me at least give you a checklist, anyone who falls into one of these warnings is the one people should be mad at and call irresponsible:
DO NOT except being told that you have a progressive and fatal disease, you don't, and you have to demand better than that for yourself.
DO NOT let anyone disempower you. Addiction is a learned behavior, it is a choice. The truth is that you are not powerless over any aspect of your life, believing otherwise has a heavy price to pay.
DO NOT let anyone condemn you to struggle.
If you choose traditional rehab, these are the things that I wish I knew to ask, learn from my mistakes:
*
Are they 12 step based, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy based, a mix, an Alternative? *
What is their success rate? *
How is the success rate determined? *
How is their data collected? *
How long after the client leaves the facility is their progress tracked? *
What percentage of their clients are sober after 1 year? After 5 years? *
Does the staff include former addicts? *
Who decides the treatment plan? Is it one size fits all? Does the client have a say in their treatment plan? *
Is aftercare recommended? Does aftercare have any bearing on the success rate? *
Do they guarantee success?
WATCH OUT for very expensive treatment centers that have no verifiable success rate. Most times they don't so be sure and ask how they know that their methods work.
This is not "a pill for every ill" type of mentality
Being non-dependant on a substance that once controlled your life takes some effort, but it is not the excruciating, years-long, in-need-of-professional-help task most people would have you believe.
It's simple, and more importantly it's fun! You don't have to start saying no to anything before you have something better to say yes to. "Give up something good for something great"
All you need are some "Empowering Action Strategies."
It really doesn't matter why you do what you do. If you have read this far the fact is that you want to change your life.
Endlessly analyzing why you chose drugs or alcohol isn't going to change your brain's response. Only actively reprogramming your mind will change the way that you react to drugs or alcohol. Talking and pills will not bring relief, ever.
Now, let's face it. When you were little you didn't say "When I grow up I want to struggle one day at a time to be sober."
You want to have fun, you want to be fun! I know I do- and it isn't something I had to give up, fun is exactly what I've regained. The current treatment paradigm has us believing we can't have a good time while treating addiction. It just isn't true!
This isn't a problem that you wanted. You had bigger dreams, dreams of a successful and happy life.
You can still have it!
Striving for sobriety alone is not a good enough goal to light a fire and warrant the consistent effort you'll need to make a dramatic change. More... |
