My wife and have spent the last 4 years teaching people how to speak and read Japanese online, and we've also had the privilege of helping hundreds of students of Japanese to pass the Japanese Language Proficiency Test.

And the truth is that living or just visiting Japan can be an incredibly rewarding - and life changing - experience if you know how to speak real Japanese!

Unfortunately, there are far too many Japanese speaking programs out there that only teach students a small portion of what it takes to really communicate to Japanese in Japan!

"It is just crazy!"

After talking with over 100 students who were disheartened and frustrated with their progress of learning Japanese, and after speaking with dozens of people who genuinely wanted to live in Japan, but who simply couldn't afford the hundreds of dollars that private lessons cost - not to mention all the extra money they had spent on basic Japanese audio programs, text books and group lessons - I decided it was time for me to do something about it.

I wondered whether it would be possible to develop a comprehensive language course that would give people wanting to visit or live in Japan enough functional and communicative language to survive daily life.

At first, I thought it wouldn't work. After all, how could a online course give students all the necessary listening and speaking skills to get around and live in Japan?

You see, I knew that if a home-study Japanese language course was going to be worthwhile, it would have to

• teach real spoken Japanese
• give students the confidence to speak Japanese
• save money and time
• explain confusing and greatly misunderstood cultural aspects of the language

Here is the problem, just learning Japanese isn't enough... I've seen many great students of Japanese, who study hours and hours, struggle to have simple conversations with native Japanese.

Learning and communicating are two very different things.

With this in mind, I realized that for a home-study course to really deliver, it would also need to;

Teach functional Japanese that is real and alive in Japan

Help students to actually practice effectively

Explain how and why certain language is used

and cut out and avoid all the unnessaccaray study garbage

On top of all this, I knew that the program I wanted to offer would also have to explain cultural aspects to Japanese communication. This is an important area neglected by most current learning programs. You simply cannot learn to communicate proficiently in Japanese without a good understanding of cultural aspects that relate to certain social situations.

"And then it hit me..."

After spending months trying to develop just the right multimedia learning package that would teach students real Japanese from the comfort of their own homes, the answer to my problems suddenly hit me like a ton of bricks...

Why not develop an Intermediate Japanese language learning program based on real life experience? A course that would let you learn the Japanese language as if you were actually in Japan where the language is explained to you rather than just taught.

It was at that very moment that I started developing Speak Japanese Fluently.

"Explain the Japanese Language, rather Than Just Teach it !"

It was so simple, I wondered why no one else had thought of it before! Most of my feedback showed me that students didn't want to focus on grammar or text books or just the basics of the language with short made up silly conversations. Students wanted to be taught real Japanese that would help them with life in Japan.

By developing a language program based on my 10 years of real life experience in Japan, I knew I could meet the needs of many learners who were struggling with their Japanese.

So what is Speak Japanese Fast?

Speak Japanese Fluently is a private members learning center with 33 video tutorials explaining spoken Japanese in real life settings. This is an Intermediate level program for people wanting to get past the basics and actually communicate effectively.

The key to our program is our learner perspective approach. In Japan, from the perspective of most Japanese, you will be either a guest or a customer. What does this mean?

It means that there will be language you will need to only understand and language you will need to memorize and practice saying. Think about it. When you go out to shop, eat or visit the doctor the way you will be spoken to and the way you speak will be very different.

We brake each lesson into two parts;

In part 1 of each lesson we focus on common expressions and questions Japanese will say or ask you. Here, it is all about understanding.

In part 2 you will learn what to say to Japanese. Here, it is about effective communication.
