E-book Title: Should I Be A Nurse
Author: Lori Havens
Book Description: "Most Students Entering Nursing School Have No Idea What Nursing Is Really Like,
Or If They Have What It Takes To Be A Nurse!"

Nursing School Costs Between
$5,000 and $40,000 Per Semester...
Are You Sure Nursing Is Right For You???

Nurses find themselves in emotionally intense situations on a daily basis.
Over the years I've watched countless nurses "burn out" and, tragically, walk away from a career they spent several years and many thousands of dollars getting into.

Nursing instructors say that most students who drop out or flunk out of nursing school do so because they had "unrealistic expectations of what nursing would be like," often picked up from popular television shows, or they simply "don't have what it takes" to be a nurse.

Lori Havens is passionate about helping future nurses!

With the cost of nursing schools ranging between $5,000 and $40,000 per semester, students who drop out halfway through their program may have spent up to $160,000...and months, if not years of studying...only to find themselves having to start all over again in search of a career they can love.

Do you want to commit years of intense, hard work and study, plus tens-of-thousands of dollars to something that you "think" you want to do for the rest of your working life???

During my senior year of high school, I was given a career-profile test. This multiple-choice test asked me questions about myself and had me choose the answer that was closest to what I felt was true. A week later,
I was given my results: a computer-generated "profile" of who I was, along with a list of careers that I should set my sights on. There must have been 100 of them.

It took me almost 7 years to complete my Bachelor's degree...not because I was a bad student, but because
I changed my major three times.

The financial cost was huge...it took years to pay down the debt. But just as great was the emotional toll of starting something, putting months and years of work and study into it, only to realize that it wasn't what I wanted to do with my life.

It costs too much to make a mistake...

A general, computerized, "one-size-fits-all" career profile might get you in the ballpark in terms of a general interest area. Perhaps that is, in part, how you first became interested in a career in nursing. But with today's ultra-high cost of secondary education and a really tough economy, it just isn't enough. If you're like most people, you can't afford to waste your money on uncertainties.
  • Career Personality Profiles may give you a general-interest area, but they will NOT show you if a specific career-like Nursing-will be right for you
  • Popular TV shows like "Grey's Anatomy" and "E.R." use medical terminology, and the trauma scenes may look accurate...but they don't accurately portray the true reality of professional nursing
  • Few people get the opportunity to experience nursing from the "inside" before they make the decision to invest their time and tuition dollars in it as a future career
  • The cost of quitting nursing school halfway through is high...and the cost of working at a job that just isn't right for you can be even higher

How can you know if nursing will be a good "fit" for you???
How can you know if you have what it takes to be a nurse,
and if nursing is a career that you will love?

I spent my first two years of college at a Big Ten School that was 2 hours from my home. Like a lot of freshmen, I thought I knew what I wanted to do, based upon my personality profile, general interest areas, and a very brief personal experience. I declared my major in Audiology and Speech Pathology. Two years later, I realized I had made a mistake.

Fortunately, most of my credits transferred after I changed my major. I also decided to change colleges at that time, and I headed off to a smaller, private college 4 hours away from home. This time, I was certain that I knew what I wanted to do. I had 2 years under my belt, and wouldn't make that mistake again! Another year went by...and guess what?

You've got it...another wrong career choice. Are you keeping count? We're up to 3 years of college completed, and I still didn't know what I was going to do.

By this time, my sister had become a nurse, and she was able (I have no idea to this day just exactly how she
did it) to get me into a pair of scrubs and into the ICU with her for a day of "work." Spending time with "real nurses," watching the interactions between themselves and their patients, and hearing their stories helped me more than any career profile ever could have.

I was able to see what she did from a nurse's perspective.
This is different than watching what a nurse does
from a patient's perspective! VERY DIFFERENT!!!

Even so, when I finally decided to go into nursing school, I still didn't really know what I was getting myself into. That's actually pretty common. Nursing instructors say that the majority of students entering nursing school have no idea what nursing is really like. And they certainly have no idea of how rigorous nursing school will be.

Drop-out rates are pretty high. Some nursing students have personal or family situations that don't allow them to continue. Others simply can't cut it academically. Nursing school is not easy!!!

But most of the students who drop out of nursing school do so because they stepped into a program that they should never have started in the first place...not because they were incapable, but because they were incompatible.

If only an experienced nurse could come alongside YOU,
and explore with you the Career of Nursing that you are considering,
BEFORE you commit your valuable resources!!!

I have shared my passion for nursing with so many people over my career! I've met many, many people who
I knew would make great nurses and love their jobs...and many who I knew would be completely miserable.
Everyone benefits from guidance provided by an experienced, trusted mentor when it comes to choosing a career path. So I decided, "why not make the process that I use available to everyone who struggles with wanting to know if nursing is right for them!"

Why I Wrote This E-book...
(And How It Can Help You The Same Way It's Helped Others!)

No one should have to "guess" in this day and age about a career! Time is too short, money is too tight, education is too expensive, and you cannot afford to make a mistake. You need to do everything you can
in advance to be sure you're making the best decision possible.

Without someone to walk you through a planned course of discovery of the nursing profession and whether or not it "fits" with who you are, you stand a very good chance of making an extremely costly mistake...costly in terms of time, money, and pain and frustration.
"Should I Be A Nurse" will walk you through just such a course.
