True Story
Approximately 3 years ago I was in a business meeting on a beautiful spring day and it was my turn to stand up in front of the group and give my part of a group presentation. My heart was pounding, my mind was racing so fast I felt like I was not in the room, my mouth was dry, I was sweating ... I hear my name being announced. I stand up on shaky knees and start to walk to the front of the room. I am very light headed and when I decide to talk no words come out. When I say no words, I mean absolutely no sound. I cough and try to clear my throat but nothing works. Oh no, I think to myself, my career is over! I am in a full blown panic attack from my Social Anxiety and Fear! I try to talk but I can't. This was not the worse thing that was going to happen to me on that beautiful spring day. Guess what happened next...
I passed out. Yes. I fell to the floor. I hope this story doesn't scare you. I want you to know Right Now that if you suffer from Social Anxiety and Fear please take the time to read this page, it could change your life.
Before I finish "the rest of the story", I want you to know that I understand how you feel. I had struggled with Social Anxiety and Fear my whole life. I figured this was just the way my life was going to be. Well I was wrong! You can overcome your Social Anxiety and Fear. In fact, I will guarantee you that you will overcome your fears.
My goal is to give you every piece of information you need to overcome your anxiety and fear. I know you are tired of living like this. You deserve better.
The rest of the story... After I passed out, I woke up and was in a chair. An ambulance had been called. It is amazing that other people almost never notice someone who has social anxieties or fears. That is why we feel so alone. We always wonder; do other people have these same types of fears? You will find some surprising answers in my manual. I was given orange juice and was told to get something to eat by the paramedics. They thought I passed out because of stress or possibly that I had flu symptoms. I didn't need their diagnosis, I knew what was wrong.
Mentally, I was very tired. I had been fighting Social Anxiety all my life and I couldn't take it anymore.
In my mind I had hit rock bottom. It was a Thursday and I had a 2 week vacation planned so I stayed home from work on Friday. I didn't realize it at the time, but I had stressed myself out so bad from my social anxieties, that I lay in bed with a minor breakdown for approximately 10 days! I could not get out of bed and slept A LOT! This was very scary for my spouse as I was always the hard charging, "60 hour a week", "nothing bothers me" person.
I decided that I either had to quit my job or get some help. The decision to understand this disorder changed my life.
Please note, I did not say BEAT this disorder. You will never beat your anxieties and fears until you understand the reasons for your fears. As I explain in the manual, all the breathing techniques and medications in the world will not help you get to the root cause of why you feel fear in social situations.
So in the beginning, I did what everyone thinks they should do. I went to a psychiatrist then a therapist. I read a book and I even started medication. I soon learned, that Doctors, Psychiatrists and Therapists are very well educated , honest people but they couldn't help me because they didn't suffer from social anxieties and couldn't understand what is was really like "inside my head".
Additionally, these professionals presented so many techniques to "try" that it was difficult to figure out what methods were best. That is when I made my decision to research all of the scientific data and studies I could find on social anxiety and fear. My hypothesis was that certain methods had to work better than others.
I didn't study theories and theoretical techniques. I studied only actual clinical studies and statistics to compile the Prisoners of Our Thoughts Manual. I have a background in research so I think this motivated me to find the real answers to my fears.
When I started my journey to recovery, I thought why should I try the "buffet" of techniques suggested by the professionals if I don't know if they have worked for other people? I thought, if I only study the results of what has worked for people and what hasn't worked then I would have the proven techniques that would cure social anxiety. So I studied books, discussed with professionals, attended social anxiety workshops, communicated with fellow social anxiety sufferers and developed a manual of only proven techniques that I will reveal in Prisoners Of Our Thoughts.
The results of these studies were amazing! It was like getting the answers before a test.
