MRSA

• In general, MRSA is a greater risk to patients than staff. This could also include other people such as visitors, family, etc.

• There is a difference between people infected with MRSA and those who are asymptomatically colonised (i.e. carry the bacteria on their body but are not infected).

• Around one third of the population carries a common form of bacteria from the Staphylococcus family, called Staphylococcus aureus (SA). It as a rule lives on the skin or in the nose, and does not cause much damage, aside from triggering occasional skin irritations.

• Of all the bacteria that have "colonised" the human race, MRSA is amongst the most treacherous.

• Concerning Community Acquired MRSA - Five factors were associated with outbreaks of the infection - crowding, skin contact, abrasions, or cuts in the skin, sharing contaminated equipment or towels and a lack of hygiene. (page 31).

• MRSA exhibits one feature that makes it an imminent, deadly adaptation of its more common bacterial cousins - it is resistant to the bulk of antibiotics available. Many varieties of MRSA have been documented, and each one has a differing degree of resistance to an array of antibiotics.

• Many healthy humans are said to be "colonised," meaning they have MRSA present on their skin or mucous membranes, but the MRSA presents no harm to these people. Colonised people are carriers and present a danger of passing MRSA unwillingly to other people. (page 8).

• Many doctors don't even advise their patients they could be exposed to MRSA. It is a hazard that every patient must be aware of. This is not just a 'staph' infection. It is THE MOST EVIL staph infection that one can come in contact with... and once you get it, the MRSA bug never 'dies,' as germs do. It goes into a dormant status and is able to stay that way for many years. Or it can flare up many times, over the course of your life.
