This ADULT SUPERNATURAL THRILLER is set in the real towns of Pratts Hollow and Madison located about twenty miles South of Utica, New York. These rural Upstate New York towns are rocked by the appearance of two twelve year old siblings who create strange events within the community.
The outsiders focus their macabre attention on a group of five young children who grow up together not only as close friends, but also as an extended family consoling each other through their own personal obstacles. Tommy Tremaine, Samantha Peate, Bobby Frye, Lane Collins, and Sarah Jensen create their own exclusive club in an attempt to protect themselves from the dangers that lies in their once playful and safe hometown. They are unaware, however, that the two strangers aren't just bizarre, but more treacherous and evil than they could ever fathom, even capable of almost destroying their lifelong friendships.
However, as adults, when one of their own, the five year old little girl of two of the members suddenly disappears, the club reunites to combat the very evil that caused their estrangement. Now they must conquer not only actual demons, but also the demons that exist within themselves while jeopardizing their lives.
It is a historical battle between good and evil casting aside the modern day judgments of who is perceived as a good person by societal standards, and who is truly evil. This is a story that reflects some of the darkest side of living as well as the great joys, dreams, and triumphs summoning the hidden strengths and capabilities, which are maintained in all of us when pushed to our limit.
'Madness in Pratts Hollow' Excerpt from Chapter Nine
(Cast of Characters: The Best Friends; Tommy Tremaine, Bobby Frye, Samantha Peate, Lane Collins, and Sarah Jensen. Sharon Tremaine, (Tommy Tremaine's grandmother, Nana); and Maurice and Genevieve Downey (Mark and Ginny) the mysterious newcomers.
For Bobby's special birthday, Sharon decided to take out Big Bertha, her nineteen sixty-seven Malibu Wagon. Lane and Sarah removed Bertha's cover. She always looked in showroom condition. Sharon knew the New York State's strict law regarding the wearing of seatbelts, but she let the kids ride in the back so they could lie side by side and look out the back window. This was their treat and she was only going a few miles down the road. Besides Sharon could not remember when she had last seen law enforcement in her town. Big Bertha turned on Pratts Road; the only road leading to Pratts Hollow; it was almost eight o'clock. Sharon dropped off Lane and Sarah first then headed toward town to bring the other two to their homes. Sharon pulled into Samantha Peate's driveway first. She noticed lights on in the home next door. "I thought that place was empty, did someone move in?" Sharon asked Sam. "Yeah, two kids and their parents. My dad is doing some remodeling work for them. He's at their place almost every night." Sam answered. "Oh, who are your new neighbors?" Sharon further inquired. "There's a boy and a girl my age. Brother and sister, they're kind of creepy acting though. The Downey family, the girl is Genevieve, Ginny for short, and the boy is Maurice, Mark for short." Sam climbed out of the back and opened the car door. Sharon could not believe her ears, it couldn't be. Those are the same names of the people she had read about in the diary she found in her basement. 'Oh dear God.' Sharon thought. All the blood ran from her face, and she felt slightly dizzy. "Anything wrong?" Bobby did not like the look on nana's face. Sharon did not want to alarm the kids. "Everything is just fine, kids. If your new neighbors give you the creeps, maybe it's best you steer clear of them. Do you hear me, Sam? Please steer clear of them." "I'm way ahead of you Nana, I don't like them at all." Sam thanked her for the party and headed toward the house. Sharon dropped Bobby off at his home about a half-mile down. Bobby gave Sharon a huge hug and gathered his presents. He ran inside. Sharon and Big Bertha pulled out of Bobby Frye's driveway and headed back down Pratts Road toward Madison. Sharon's mind was reeling. She could not believe that it would be a coincidence that the names of the children were the same as those horrible people that founded Pratts Hollow. She slowed as she got near their large, cobblestone home. Right by the road was the little boy. Sharon recognized him from the two that had rung her doorbell the first day of school. He was facing Sharon's car with his hands stretched out. He was pale and ghostly looking. He looked more creature-like than a little boy. Sharon was scared; she accelerated and flew by the boy as fast as Big Bertha would go. When she felt safe she took her foot off the gas pedal. Her heart was beating fast in her chest. What was she to do? She caught a flash in the corner of her eye. It was the boy standing by the side of the road again, hands outstretched. 'It's impossible. I must be seeing things.' Sharon could not believe her eyes. She punched the gas pedal again. After a quick mile she decelerated, and sure enough there was the boy again. Sharon hit the gas pedal again, but this time did not slow down until she got to the flashing yellow light on the corner of Route 20 and North Street. She looked at her speedometer as she went by the small town of Bouckville; Big Bertha was going one hundred and five miles per hour. The engine was running smooth as silk. Sharon's heart was pounding out of her chest. The next day Louise Potter went outside to feed her baby girl, Daisy, she was whistling the theme from The Love Boat. Louise screamed and fell to the ground. Daisy, her pride Doberman Pincer, was lying there dead. Her eyes had been plucked from their sockets and she had been gutted. There were no sign of any blood, or entrails, just a rat crouched down chewing at Daisy's left front paw.
