Several years ago my wife Elissa and I moved to beautiful Ormond Beach Florida to semi-retire. I retired from the practice of Dentistry 19 years ago and began a successful career as a writer and publisher. I loved my work. Everything was wonderful and then one day I experienced my first attack of gout. Since that fateful day I have been researching Gout and its causes, cures, remedies and myths.
The information I am presenting to you comes from my extensive research on the subject. Here is my story: It was the middle of the night. I opened my eyes and was awakened by earth shattering pain. My big toe was THROBBING. In fact it felt like a towering inferno.
I turned on the light and was startled to see that my great toe was 5 times its normal size. It was bright red and red hot, just like a firecracker and the pain was the most severe that I've ever experienced by far!
My Big Toe Felt Like a Tornado of Pain!
I couldn't even walk - in fact I had to crawl to the bathroom. The slightest touch (even from the bed sheet) sent me writhing in pain.
Putting on any shoe at all was completely out of the question. I couldn't even get a sock on my foot! I went straight to my doctor.
My doctor tried to allay my fears. He told me that the typical victims are males in their 50's although others may be affected as well. They are usually overweight. He told me that gout accounts for almost 5% of all arthritis sufferers.
He said that gout has been around throughout time and that it is actually one of the world's oldest known diseases.
He also said that Gout is not curable, but not to despair because it is 100% controllable with proper treatment and diet. It used to be considered the "disease of royalty" because they had previously thought that gout was the result of huge overindulgences in rich foods and excessive alcohol consumption.
Gout is a form of arthritis that often sneaks up on you in the middle of the night or during the early morning hours. It attacks your joints with excruciating pain.
The pain of gout comes from deposits of needle-like crystals of uric acid that form in the joints.
These uric acid crystals inflame the surrounding area and lead to very painful inflammatory arthritis. This inflammation is what's responsible for the pain, the heat, the redness, the swelling and the throbbing in the joint of the big toe. Untreated, the joint can become permanently damaged and even disfigured.
What Is The Conventional Treatment For Gout?
When someone suffers acute attacks, doctors generally prescribe one or a combination of 3 types of medicine. Here's how traditional medicine generally deals with gout.
1- Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)
For a gout attack many doctors recommend oral doses of anti-inflammatory drugs. Many of these medications have side effects that include but are not limited to stomach pain, bleeding and ulcers. These medications can only manage a very "limited" amount of pain - beyond which larger doses simply give no more relief.
2- Corticosteroids
Taken by injection into the affected area or taken orally these drugs are in the anti- inflammatory group. They too may cause many untoward side effects. Corticosteroids decrease the body's ability to fight infections and can delay wound healing.
Corticosteroids may also lead to brittle bones. For this reason many physicians do not employ injected corticosteroids as an ongoing pain management method for gout victims.
3- Colchicines
This is a favorite drug of many doctors. Although it's good at preventing recurrences of gout, serious side effects occur such abdominal cramps; diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
Traditional medicines approach to gout carry with them numerous and very negative and potentially very serious side effects.
My Doctor told me to go home and take Ibuprofen (an NSAID) and to avoid fried foods, red meat, shell fish and alcohol. Well, I did just that but after 4 days my right big toe was still the size of a baseball. I was crying and trying to crawl to the bathroom when my wife returned home. She helped me get up. She said let's go on the internet and try to find some kind of help for you. Waiting out the pain was no longer an option.
Well, we scoured the web and found a few sites offering natural and herbal cures. We ordered some by FedEx overnight but nothing worked fast enough! Everything I ordered said it needed time to work because natural herbal preparations were not medicine and as such acts slower than prescription medications might.
Basically most of the supplements we sent for were worthless. Here's why. In the ads they said they will actually cure gout with no changes in your diet. They say, go ahead eat whatever you like and my wonder pill will eliminate your gout. I ordered every herbal product out there, even one recommended by the famous guy from the famous TV infomercials who wrote the number one book on the Times best seller list on alternative medicine.
Every single natural pill I ordered came with the exact same warning. This all natural medication is guaranteed to work if you do not drink alcohol, eat fried foods, shell fish, meat and should be taken with a full glass of water. They also say drink as much water as possible while on their wonder pills to wash the uric acid out of your body. You can accomplish the exact same thing by following the warnings and not taking the supplements at all!
Guess what? If you followed that advice you wouldn't need the pills they are selling at all. 99% of all the ads offering a cure for gout are a fraud. Because there is NO CURE FOR GOUT period! Anyone who tells you they can cure your gout is actually a fraud so run from those ads and health products that claim to do so and follow the instructions in my report and you will be able to finally find relief and CONTROL, not CURE your gout.
I was very unhappy because the week-end of my worst attack was at a time when I had plans to attend a seminar that I was eagerly awaiting for months. The seminar was given by a legal expert and a very good friend of mine was going to attend as my special guest. I absolutely couldn't go and was totally devastated.
This gout was actually ruining my life and livelihood and nothing; I mean absolutely nothing could stop my pain. I was finally at my wit's end.
Amazingly, when I was feeling the absolute worst the phone rang. It was my best friend Gary. I told my wife to tell him that I was suffering too much to speak to him.
She told him that I was having an uncontrollable attack of gout and that I'd get back to him shortly. He told her to put me on the telephone at once no matter how much I was suffering.
I answered his call and said "Gary I am so glad you called, but I'm dying in pain right now from an attack of gout." With that he said: "It must have been a miracle that I called you now because my father suffered from gout and my grandmother (now long passed away) had a simple home remedy that cured my dad of his pain in about an hour."
He said after using this simple home remedy that his father never had a painful attack of gout again.
But here's the most mind boggling thing he said: I probably already had the cure to my pain in my kitchen this very moment! I checked and sure enough he was right. I had it. I simply followed Gary's instructions and...
