E-book Title: Guide your child to success in gymnastics.
Author: Murray G. Hughes
Book Description:

Gymnastics Parents! If you want to be the best parent you can be, or even just a better parent than you are now, and to share your child's excitement and love of gymnastics, then this may be the most important letter you will read all year...

"Who Else Wants To Experience The Bursting Pride & Joy When Your Child Stands Atop The Gymnastics Winners Podium, Looks You In The Eye From Across The Cheering Arena And Mouths 'Thank You'...

Because They Know Without You They Could Never Have Achieved Their Dreams?"

"My book of Gymnastics Secrets, written by a gymnastics parent for gymnastics parents, is unlike anything you've ever seen. I know because I tried to find a book just like it and ended up having to write it myself!

"Now you can start becoming a better gymnastics parent today.. even if you are a complete beginner and know nothing about gymnastics, or you've tried to give the kind of support you think is right but failed miserably or your simply still not sure."

"My Gymnastics Secrets Are Secrets No More"

Following the suggestions of many friends and parents, I decided to go ahead and put what I had learned from six months of study into a book written especially for gymnastics parents by a gymnastic parent.

So after an additional 5 weeks of writing and consulting with gymnasts, parents and coaches I am now proud to announce Gymnastics Secrets Revealed!TM is ready and you can literally start reading it in the next 5 minutes!

Let me tell you what you will discover in:

Gymnastic Secrets Revealed! TM

  • How to tell the seriousness of an injury. Not going to the hospital when you should, can, in serious cases, end careers or even, I hate to say it but, result in death.

What This Means To You - I really don't think I need to make this point any clearer...we all love our kids and would do anything thing to protect them and ensure their safety. (Page 44)
  • VERY IMPORTANT: Know what Cathy Rigby, Nadia Comaneci, and Kathy Johnson have in common. It may not be what you think......ready for this bombshell.......they all had severe eating disorders.

Studies have shown occurance of anorexia is on the way up, as much as 360% over the last 9 years.

Anorexia: As many as 62% of gymnasts are effected!

62%! And it's no longer a women's disease either. Gymnasts are particularly prone to developing eating disorders but usually very good at hiding it, even from loved ones.
    • Learn what an eating disorder is.
    • Why it happens.
    • Who is at risk.
    • Tell-tale "warning signs"
    • Where you can find help

What This Means To You - Cathy Rigby twice had heart failure as a result of anorexia! But the rest of us only knew her smiling face and incredible skill. Stop this silent-assassin from targeting your child before its too late. (Chapter 7 - The Entire Chapter!)
  • All of the different female gymnastics disciplines including:
    • Equipment specifications
    • Physical demands
    • Skills it will build in your child gymnast

What This Means To You - No longer will your eyes glaze over when your daughter talks "gymnastics". (Pages 7 to 11).
  • All of the different male gymnastics disciplines including:
    • Equipment specifications
    • Physical demands
    • Skills it will build in your child gymnast

What This Means To You - No longer will your eyes glaze over when your son talks "gymnastics". (Pages 12 to 17)
  • Precautions you can and should be taking to keep your child safe.
    • Parents often feel they are powerless when it comes to ensuring the safety of their gymnasts when they are training but it doesn't have to be that way. Learn what you CAN do.

What This Means To You - Ever seen your child not land a "trick" correctly? If you have then I don't need to explain the 'What This Means To You' of this one. Your child won't be injured....you won't have a heart attack! (Pages 43 to 44)
  • Understanding "peer pressure" and how to deal with it. We've all been there. Peer pressure and teasing is as alive and well today as it ever was.

What This Means To You - Learn how to end the tears. (Page 21)
  • Learn about the most common gymnastics injury of all. How to recognize it, how to assess it's seriousness, how to treat it and how to prevent it from happening again.

What This Means To You - It is almost inevitable your child will experience this injury BUT after reading this chapter you will be much better prepared and your child will be back on the springboard faser than ever.
(Chapter 6 - The Entire Chapter!)
  • VERY IMPORTANT: How you can support your child gymnast. Are you too involved, are you not involved enough, do you use guilt to motivate her?

The way you support your child can make or break not only there chances at gymnastics but also there chances for happiness and a wonderful relationship with you. So important is this topic I gave it a full chapter.

What This Means To You - Your child will be happy and successful. They will love and respect you to pieces. You will get to see them support their own children with the same love and compassion.
(Chapter 3 - The Entire Chapter!)
  • How to tell if your child is being taught one of the most important of all gymnastics skills - How to avoid injury.

Did you know your coach should be teaching strategies for avoiding injury in the case of a fall?

What This Means To You - A dismount gone wrong won't result in a broken ankle or worse, heavens forbid! (Page 42)
  • How NOT to be a "little league parent". Few things are uglier than a parent out-of-control. What kind of example does it set? How harmful is it to your child?

What This Means To You - Your child gymnast will want you to come and participate in the wonderful enjoyment of practice and meets, instead of secretly telling her friends you aren't really her parent, but actually a crazy relative she wishes would leave her alone.
    (Page 22)
  • What to do in the case of injury. There are many things you can and should do in the moments following injury. Do you know what they are? If you don't you are running a huge and unnecessary risk.

What This Means To You - You don't have to rush for the first aid manual and your child will recover sooner.
    (Page 44)
  • Important Guide-Points for beginners (I'm talking about you not your child :-). Gymnastics is famous for the amount of commitment it requires from parents as well as children. I've seen more than one child wrenched from a gymnastics career they loved because their parents suddenly realized it's more work than they planned.

What This Means To You - You won't start off on the wrong foot. Your child won't hate you for crushing her dreams. Gymnastics will be a special and wonderful part of all of your lives.
(Chapter 4 - The Entire Chapter)
  • Common injuries. No matter how careful you and your child are, there are some injuries that just can't be avoided. Learn which ones they are, how to treat them and more importantly, how to prevent them.

What This Means To You - Decrease child gymnast down time and increase child gymnast "fun" time.
    (Page 46)

  • (Chapters 8 and 9) I dedicated 2 whole chapters to answering the most frequently asked questions from parents like you. Here is a small sample:

    Question 1
I want to find the coach that's best suited to coach my daughter in gymnastics, but coaches seem to be a lot like doctors--you can't get a second opinion without hurting someone feelings or upsetting them. How do I get around this?

    Question 2
I'd like to learn how to cast a handstand on the uneven bars. Are there some drills I could do at home to help me learn?

    Question 3
How do you support a backflip?

    Question 4
How long do the top gymnasts usually spend working on physical conditioning during a typical practice session?

    Question 5
For strength training, should a gymnast use free weights or do circuit training with machines?

    Question 6
How can I get my junior gymnast to overcome his fear of attempting skills by himself?

    Question 7
How can I safely ramp up my child's fitness level for gymnastics, while making sure that they are still having fun and enjoying it?

    Question 8
How do I get my child to focus on her own gymnastics stunts instead of being concerned about what her peers are doing?

    Question 9
My five-year-old daughter started gymnastics to have fun, and quickly became very good at it. Then she got hurt. Now she's ready to give up. How can I encourage her to heal and keep doing what she loves?

    Question 10
How do you know if a gymnastics gym or studio is qualified to know when to push your child and when to back off? I get the impression that some of these gyms are only concerned with winning competitions and that they ignore gymnasts who aren't elite champions.

    Question 11
How you make sure your young gymnast lives a balanced life?

There are actually 71 questions in all. I ran this question-asking-campaign until the questions began repeating themselves, that is, there were no new questions. And then I set about researching and writing the answers, which included consulting the expertise of 2 experienced gymnastics coaches.

What This Means To You - Obvious. Your questions answered. I'd be very surprised if not all or at least most of your questions are answered in these 2 comprehensive chapters of frequently asked questions.
