They DO make money at it or they wouldn't continue. Why? Because it's not just 'enjoyable', it's WORK. And the last time I checked, people usually expect to get paid for working. It doesn't mean you don't enjoy what you do, but it is work.

Many of them will inform you that they only breed when they are wanting to keep one for themselves, am I right? I bet they lay awake nights praying that they only get one puppy in that litter so they don't cause themselves all that stress of having to sell any puppies.
And doing it right means you'd lose money?... Am I the only one out there scratching my head saying "HUH?!"? If you did it RIGHT wouldn't you be MAKING money?
I've never heard a dog breeder say anything to contradict the claims of losing money.
Maybe they gather together in the losing masses at the dog shows complaining about how financially bad off they are.
Or maybe they are doing it 'wrong' and have plenty of money to pay for those long road trips, hotel fees and dog entries on the weekends? After all, the opposite of doing it right (losing money) is doing it wrong (making money) Right? hmmm... never heard one say that either!
Are we confused yet?
I show my dogs so I've been there. I don't complain about losing money. I make money raising dogs. But we breeders sure don't brag to one another that we make money. That would get us thrust from the 'clique' in a nano-second.
If you haven't already, ask a breeder upfront how to get started in raising dogs for a living.
You'll get instantly met with something like "Don't do it. You'll be sorry! Trust us, we are the ONLY ones qualified enough, intelligent enough and dedicated enough to be entrusted with our special breeds."
Okay, they probably wouldn't react just like that. It would be much worse! (some of you are sitting there nodding your heads, aren't you?)
And of course they will then refuse to sell you an intact dog or one who has papers that haven't been limited so you could never register any of your puppies if you did breed your dogs. Not only that, they will treat you like the garbage that they know you are for daring to have the desire to do what they are doing. After all, it's WRONG to want to breed dogs unless your THEM.
Isn't that what they have all been telling you so far?
