This is a great magic trick that you can perform anywhere and anytime in pretty much any conditions, where you're already using or can borrow a gent's handkerchief.
You "accidently" SET FIRE to the borrowed handkerchief - DISASTER - then AMAZING... IT'S SHOWN TO BE TOTALLY UNHARMED!!
Just imagine, you have a borrowed gent's handkerchief and you wish to test it for it's quality. So you apply the gentle "Heat Test"...
You take the handkerchief and just hold the flame of a match or cigarette lighter fairly close to it, supposedly to apply just enough heat to test it for quality. Unfortunately, the Handkerchief Accidentally CATCHES FIRE!!
In a blind panic and to the great amusement of the audience and the consternation of the handkerchief owner, you quickly try to put out the flames.
After a little struggle you manage to extinguish the flames and state that you don't think the handkerchief passed the "Quality Test" and you sheepishly offer to hand it back to the owner, who obviously doesn't look too pleased.
However, with your best magical flourish you shake open the handkerchief and Amazingly the Handkerchief is seen to be Restored & Unharmed! You now simply return it to the grateful owner with thanks and Great Applause
